Keeping up with the times, the sport of fishing has become more than a hobby, its big business. Fortunately for fishermen in our area, we've not had to rely on big business to fish. For 16 years, fishermen from the pro circuit all the way down to the beginner level, have passed through the doors at The Honey Hole Tackle Shop, 2916 N. 7th St., in West Monroe, to see the likes of a real fisherman's store run by people that really know what they are talking about. That would be Bobby Phillips.
Bobby himself fished among the pro and amateur ranks over the years, but nothing made him feel more at home than The Honey Hole. Although its probably not the most eye-popping, picturesque establishment one has ever seen, the business certainly has character. Phillips began his passion in 1991 inside this old Seven-Eleven building, and turned it a place where fisherman could walk-in and feel welcome. A place where they could pull up a chair, have a cup of coffee and tell tales.
Bobby sold The Honey Hole Tackle Shop in 2005 to a new owner. David Owen of West Monroe purchased the historic tackle retail outlet and is looking forward to continued much of the same traditions and success Bobby has enjoyed.
"My three favorite things to do are fish, talk about fishing and buy stuff to go fishing," Owen said.
He believes that Phillips has established the business well and has created a specific niche in the market, which he has continued to duplicate.
All we do is fishing and no other sporting goods. We specialize in crappie tackle and keep up the knowledge with what is happening in our area on the waterways and baits to use.
